Welcome to the Blue Sky Wildlife Shelter Homepage

My name is Amanda, though most me people know me as Blue. I am a wildlife carer and I manage Blue Sky Wildlife Shelter in Altona. "Blue Sky" is a place of safety, care, rest and rehabilitation for urban and semi rural Brush Tail and Ring Tail possums living in the western regions of Melbourne.

At Blue Sky I provide long term shelter for 12 possums at any one time. I specialise in raising orphans and I have had extensive experience with difficult feeders.  While they are not our primary focus, we are also well equipped to house and rehab ducklings, seagulls and ravens.

I am an active member of   Wildlife Victoria  and independantly available 24/7 for orphan possum rescue by calling my mobile: 0449752325.

During fire season, flooding or heatwave times, I am generally able to bump in up to 20 -30 individual possums for short stay rest, rehydration and release, so please call in or telephone if you have the need and I will let you know if space is available. Please note that in crisis events, priority of placement is given to animals who have been assessed by a vet, or those that arrive via BADGAR or Wildlife Victoria rescuers and transporters, so please consider contacting these groups first.

Why " Blue Sky" ?  I chose this name as representative of my working personal ethos, that all wild creatures deserve our best efforts towards full rehabilitation - that its not enough to simply to 'raise' them, that rehabilitation is the key to ongoing survival.  The name speaks to my heart that the goal of any wild life care I do, is to keep the 'wild' within them and so it defines my role, to get them back out there, into *their* natural environment, under those clear blue skies - capeable and able to compete in their natural environments as soon as possible.

Thank you for caring....and for sharing our journey.

Blue
