It all started when...
March 30, 2009
Hi Everyone
The new donated avairy arrived over the weekend and its now up and ready to go...it can hold 3 small possys or one long term rehabbing one..I am so stoked to have it here and hope now that we've built it 'they will come ' lol.
Quick update on the animals...
We are rehabbing Gemma ready for her release day, limiting our contact and organising for a soft release back into the area of her mothers gene pool near the Melbourne. Its tough arranging vet students to be consistently there to soft feed her for a little while until she gets her free-feet going..but its doable!
She is going very well about another 100gms to go before I will feel comfortable letting her go.. ..she needs a bit of padding to go out with in case food supplies dry up. Her current other nickname is "mole"..because she is behaving like one..all hissy and nippy..which I dont mind really as it will aid her well in release..but.."mole" it is..along with a few other minor cuss words references at different times! :) Oh and we've also reduced her yummy food and increased her foilage..if all goes well it will be the end of April and I will be sure to get pics:)
Victoria...well I havent heard back from her new mum in a while..which is a good thing I am sure if she wasnt ok I'd get 'the' call..so far so good :)
Womble is furry now! and is growing so very fast. I am very proud of her and have some new pics to load as soon as I get my programs back to do that...(we lost our computor hardrive and have to reinstall everything.)
I've been giving Womble 'backriding' experiences - letting her sit on a teddy and moving her around in jerky comical fashion ( yes I know very odd) but it has practical applications....she needs her muscles to build now so she can support herself and this is the most commonsense way I knew how to do that I cant exactly get her into the gym.
She is very fast for such a little mite.. tearing around my room most nights..and I have to watch her because she likes under the bed and I cant get under there if she bolts...the cats wouldnt be unhappy tho.
She is also riding my shoulder as I prep her night feeds and she's staying awake longer at night. I love it that she trusts me :)
She has graduated into a stage 3 cage now and I and this means she can begin to explore and move around a bit more when she is ready to..and she is also having soft solids like bannana and avacado and after little initial mistake giving her hard apple too soon, and some discomfort and constipation fixed by some yummy honey water, she is finally pooping ok again. Phew..last thing I need is a constipated possum!
Me..I'm doing ok too...you know..it all started when I decided I wanted to 'save the animals'...and the reality is, the reverse has been so true its not funny. I am learning so much about process and walking gently..about my own balance...but I am also 'listening' better...and sometimes I think the questions animals cant ask us, are coming out of my own mouth at times.
Its participating in LIFE...and a wonderful one too...I love living the impossible.
