Outdoor retreat for our little brood

December 17, 2010
Recent rains have meant an influx of ducklings who's nests have been swept away in rising floodwaters.
We now have 11 little ducklings in care and yesterday they experienced their first real full day outdoors since arriving.
As they grow we are able to expand the shelter range of food and water on offer...and they are loving the little jungle of what once was our vegie patch.

Here's some pics:

Even though this years orphan season wasnt as bad as last year it was still quite full on and now they are all growing up and outside Ive finally got time to sleep rest and write. In amongst it all I've been flat cha...

Christmas time again!

December 8, 2009
Wooosh!
Where did that year go?!
:)

Well folks Christmas time is upon us again and along with many people, Ive been evaluating the year gone by and sorting and organising things for 2010. Part of that has been readying things here for the expected heat and fire seasons which I am not totally convinced will be extreme here this year, but want to be prepared for anyway and partly I'm also rearranging my own priorities and making decisions about where I want to focus my energies in the coming year...

An Amazing Month

November 2, 2009
Busy busy busy! :) It's been a very full month with lots of animal guests.

I'd just like to take the time while I have some, to say thank you to members of the public who are some providing extraordinary insight and care to these animals prior to rescue. I'd like to say thank you, for thinking before acting, thank you for caring and for ringing and for doing the right things..not just in calling us, but in your care of the little guys.
Things like wrapping them warmly, keeping them in dark war...

Boo goes home..finally..

October 4, 2009
Beautiful Boo the Boobook owl was released tonight in a special location.
I have many mixed feelings...I am happy this little trooper has recovered so well and that he is free and gone..I'm worried about his survival given how much human contact he has had recently....and sad too..that the experience of him is over..its something I go through a lot caring for little ones..but somehow Boo made an impact all of his own.
Will miss you Boo...i hope the owl angels find you lots of squiggly rodents t...

Gigi plus some!

October 3, 2009
Hi Folks..meet Gigi the wandering possy from Gundagai:)
Gigi's mum was hit by a truck on the highway up north, and thankfully he stopped! ( yay) and found Gigi close by. He dropped her off here and she came into care a few days ago. Being from NSW I didnt think there would be that much difference but there is...she is already fully pelted and that pelt is very light compared to our local bushy brushy's who seem to have layers to cope with the cold here. She is also much lighter than our guys.....
