With the pelican still dropping his wing and with bad beak bruises evident we set out again this morning to bring him in.

Not wishing a repeat of yesterday, and with him situated on the rocks in the channel which made hand rescue impossible, we managed to secure a boat from the fantastic people at Anchorage Boat Sales. These guys have often assisted us with water rescues; birds seals and dolphins and today very early on a sunday have helped again - thank you guys!

Here is the culprit of yesterdays streak through the warmies carpark. He was finally caught and named Iceburg by Neil the netman, who gallantly stood watch over him for two hours in the wind and cold..and then IB was transfered to Melbourne zoo in the BADGAR mobile for xrays and a vet check. Here are the pics of his capture.

Iceburg the pelican

Cheeky sod took off!

Got him!

Mandy in fervent prayer she won't be pooped on.

All packed up ready for transport

I have to say there is nothing quite like sitting in a car travelling at speed through city traffic holding the beak of an anxious pooping pelican :)

News has just come in that he has been assessed,  he has only severe bruising  no breaks and will soon be back here for rehab and eventual release home. What a fantastic result!

Thanks muchly to bird lady Jaquie and her hubby Neil, Lisa the adventurous, the gorgeous guys from ABS, Mandy the brave and our photographer for today, Dakoda the duck wrangler.
