Yesterday I had the joy of fairy penguin wrangling...actually they're called 'little penguins' now so as not to discriminate against fairies.:/
The good news was this one today was on its feet so it has a better chance than the last few I've transported - we've lost two this week alone and several; fromthe St Kilda colony have shown up beached and dead. We're not sure yet if it is a natural cycle or another issue. Being unable to support their own weight is a bad sign for rescue, they rarely make it. I was able to feed this one today and assist him being tubed and as far as we can tell he only has a sore eye.  I am crossing fingers he will recoup and we can let him go...he was only young and in his first malt.

I also found out yesteerday that apparently..there are 'c' gulls ( normal seagulls) and 'k' gulls ( albatross etc..) and then there are 'p' gulls ( pacific gulls...) - you learn something new every day :)

This guy below is ginormous...a large pacific gull. He is about the size of a small dog, has a yellow beak with bright red tip and came in to care utterly spent and exhausted..he couldnt walk and was dehydrated. These are a couple of pics of him in the spa resting. Pacific gulls are an endangred species...which I find odd given how fast he is and how hard his bite is ouch!
